New Focal Point for Woburn Center Opens
Part of Business District Rebirth
**************
Woburn MA | 20 July 1998 - - The seven story Coakley-Jamieson Building recently opened for occupancy after more than a year of construction. The residential building is expected to be a major contributor to the rebirth of the Woburn Center business district.
Constructed of concrete frame with a brick and artstone facade, the building was designed by Morris Architects of West Newton MA and built by Seaver Construction of Woburn.
During the deliberations for the special permits issued by the City, both the landscape design and the building design were lauded as the "Best of Woburn" by planning board members and city council officials.
Architect Glenn Morris AIA created a building design that complemented the historic structures of the Center while providing a new icon that will set the precedent for other new structures in the city. The extensive landscaping and redesign of the entry to the city parking lot are both expected to add to the image of the area and the safety of drivers and pedestrians.
Site and structural engineers were Allen and Major Associates of Woburn. Papesch Associates of Boston provided construction document services for the project.

New Center for Newton Centre
West Coast Video, US Post Office and Smith & Hawken to be Tenants
**************
Newton Centre MA | 18 February 1999 - - The building has become
tired in its old age, having served nearly eight decades as an automobile dealership and the last several years as an auto body shop. But now the front facade has been gloriuosly restored and the building rebuilt to serve as the newest neighbor in the Newton Centre village retail district.
West Coast Video should be open in the next few weeks, with the retail operation of the US Post Office and a new store for garden and clothing retailer Smith & Hawken following later this Spring.
The restoration and reconstruction has been somewhat of a saga. A number of environmental and structural problems were encountered which required the attention of Morris Architects and the builder, ZVI Construction of Boston.
Morris Architects also obtained the complicated, and sometimes contentious, zoning approvals to allow the project to proceed. In addition to the restoration of the facade, the original building was reduced in size to allow for customer parking. A new facade was added on three sides and the glass line in the front facade restored to its original size. Old aluminum cladding was removed from the facade revealing an intriguing design that had fallen into disrepair. Restoration of these elements was complicated by the need to match new portions of the facade where a former loading dock was removed and the area filled in to the street line. The matching of the old and new was achieved with the use of a computer driven router and foam boards covered with a synthetic stucco, a method that Morris had used in its restoration and addition to the landmark office building at 313 Washington Street in Newton Corner.
The restored and rejuvenated building is expected to be officially dedicated later this year.

Morris Architects Designs for Polaroid...Again!
**************
Norton MA | 1 March 1999 - - It has been said that the measure of success for any business is the number of repeat clients that they retain. In this regard, Morris Architectsexcels.
One of the firm's most frequent clients over the last decade and a half has been Polaroid Corporation and the team of Polaroid and Morris is at it again.
Polaroid is building a new 9 million plus cubic foot distribution center in Norton, a facility that was designed and built by Parsons. When the time came to plan the offices for thebuilding, Polaroid approached Morris Architects, a firm that has worked with Polaroid on several facilities and at least a dozen projects over the years. Morris quickly developed aplan that allowed Polaroid to keep its traditional work spaces within the context of a vastly different building that the company has traditionally occupied. Work areas allowing for arange of worker and team interaction were developed and a common modularity designed to aid in the standardization of furniture systems while allowing for workspace flexibility.
In the business end of the distribution center, the vast warehouse and its multitude of shipping/receiving stations, Morris developed a custom processing station offering protectionfor the computers, processing space for paperwork and access to the company database. Morris has also been coordinating the manufacture of these stations by craftsmen that includemillworkers, woodworkers and metal fabricators.
Asked to identify the most intiguing of the firms projects for Polaroid, a company known for its own intrigung designs, Morris Architects Chairman Glenn Morris slyly replied,"Well, the next one, of course!".
